With the growing adoption of LOINC (Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes), including many federal initiatives, you might be wondering what is and how you might use it. This session will overview LOINC and its role within the health IT landscape. We will cover LOINC’s content, worldwide adoption and the resources available for mapping local terms to LOINC.

Objectives:

  • Describe the origins, purpose and scope of LOINC
  • Explain the six axes that make up a fully-specified LOINC term name
  • Recognize the publicly available resources to learn more about and to become involved in LOINC
