Evaluation of Leukocytosis

In this session, you will learn how to evaluate leukocytosis on an automated blood cell counter. Dr. George will outline an algorithmic guide to leukocytosis focusing on increased blasts, lymphocytosis or myeloid leukocytosis, and additional work up that is needed based on these findings.
Define leukocytosis (neutrophilia, lymphocytosis, eosinophilia, monocytosis, and basophilia) for adult and pediatric patients in your laboratory.
Describe how to confirm abnormal CBC findings.
List additional ancillary testing that should be performed when increased blasts are present.
