Case Studies Demonstrating the Clinical Application of the Advanced Clinical Parameters

1/20/2016
12:00 PM to 1:00PM (Americas) Central Time (US & Canada)

Chantale Pambrun, MD, FRCPC, Head of Division of Hematopathology and Assistant Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, IWK Children’s & Women’s Health Centre and Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia

This presentation will explore enhancing a traditional complete blood count (CBC) with hematological advanced clinical parameters to provide clinicians valuable information related to red cell hemoglobinization (reticulocyte hemoglobin content, RET-He) and bone marrow response to both anemia (reticulocyte count) and thrombocytopenia (immature platelet fraction, IPF). A series of clinical case studies will be used to demonstrate the impact these laboratory tests may have on patient management and outcomes

Objectives:

  • Recognize the value of novel hematology parameters for clinicians in aiding patient diagnosis and managing treatment
  • Describe at least 2 clinical applications for each advanced clinical parameter discussed
  • Identify the utility of reflex testing in hematology
