Reimbursement changes demand that clinical laboratories demonstrate value, in addition to operational efficiency, which requires shifting from a “factory-model” to a “healthcare provider” model. This presentation will explore the nature of that shift and the evidence for its necessity. We will describe a future in which the clinical laboratory becomes the health system’s most valuable support area and the strategies and tools to make it happen.
Explain the difference between operational efficiency and clinical effectiveness, as well as the relative importance of each
Describe how clinical laboratory medicine can cause patient harm and the challenges in quantifying the patient impact, both harm and benefits
Assess strategies appropriate for the attendee’s health system that can drive increased value from the clinical laboratory
