This session will outline the different technologies available for counting cells in body fluids. The strengths and limitations of the various methods will be discussed. Case study examples will be used to highlight the advantages of automated cell counting compared to manual methods.

Objectives:

  • State the clinical importance of accurate cell counts even at very low numbers of cells.
  • Summarize the limitations and strengths of different cell counting methods.
  • Identify the advantages of automated cell counting over manual methods.
