Hematology Case Study - IG Present
Download PDF
This is a 76 year old female (see PDF) with a history of chronic myelogenous leukemia (treatment history unknown). The automated IG count includes any metamyelocytes, myelocytes and promyelocytes.
The discrepancy in the automated IG count (44%) and the manual IG count (7%) may be due to poor distribution on the 100-cell manual differential and the presence of the “WBC Abn Scattergram” flag indicates the results of the automated differential are questionable. The blasts in this sample are not included in the IG population counted by the XN-Series™ Automated Hematology Analyzer; the absence of granulation in blast cells places the blasts to the left of the IG population in the WDF scattergram.
