Webinar | How Blood Clots: Core Principles of Coagulation and Its Impact on Laboratory Testing
May 20, 202612 PM CT
Description
Understanding the coagulation cascade and platelet-mediated hemostasis is critical to interpreting routine and specialized hemostasis assays, as each result reflects a defined segment of the coagulation pathway and is influenced by specimen integrity and assay methodology. This session integrates the foundational physiology of clot formation with practical considerations that influence coagulation test results and anticoagulant monitoring, supporting accurate differential diagnosis and distinction of true coagulopathy from preanalytical error, anticoagulant effect, or analytic interference.
Objectives
Participants will be able to discuss fundamental concepts of coagulation and the interplay of primary and secondary hemostasis processes. They will be able to recognize variables that may impact testing and identify strategies to minimize interference. Finally, they will be able to explain the testing used to monitor commonly prescribed anticoagulants.
